I am now officially done with Morphic Resonance: The Nature of Formative Causation! And by “done”, I mean that his insistence that amoebae can’t be explained by present physics just after calling their behavior “quasi-mechanistic” and “machine-like” finally got to me. No more of this shit. Got as far as “Movements and Behavioral Fields”.

I did learn some interesting things about Darwin (lacking knowledge of genetics, he came up with a pretty weird mechanism of heredity), crystallography (I knew about seeds (from Cat’s Cradle, admittedly), but not the effect they have on later crystal synthesis), and a few other tidbits. But I’m finally annoyed enough to decide I should learn these things from more reasonable sources.

So now it’s on to A History of Religious Ideas, vol. 1: From the Stone Age to the Eleusinian Mysteries, which is entirely more scientific even with that title.
