Les comparto uno de los vídeos Cyberpunk, con unos gráficos realmente espectaculares… Este vídeo deja boqui-abierto a cualquiera… Lo amo es mi favorito en animación!!

Is [cyborg + sword] like a thing?

Between this and the “why are there cyberboobs everywhere” post I’m starting to think you haven’t seen much cyberpunk!  It is all about swords (and otherwise impractical melee combat) and cyberboobs.

Specifically, Shadowrun and Snow Crash have plenty of swords and melee combat, off the top of my head; Neuromancer, which is one of the main genre kickstarters, doesn’t have swords (as far as I remember), but it does have claws.  And the whole genre is pretty steeped in Japanese influence.  Katanas everywhere.

I haven’t seen much cyberpunk, thanks for pointing out things I know. I don’t think I really want to get into it, if it’s all cyberboobs with katanas. Murr, why does everything I like come packaged with shit… Thanks for the heads up. :|

It’s not all like that, I’m just describing some of the more annoying aspects.  The genre is pretty vaguely defined (Wikipedia’s list of cyberpunk works lists Blame!) but mostly predicated on the idea of a near future where technology is everywhere and corporations control everything, which is pretty solid.

Snow Crash is very action movie-y, but, for example, Serial Experiments Lain and Existenz are cyberpunk and (almost entirely) lack combat and fanservice.  And are good.

So basically don’t let my cynicism turn you off the whole thing.  That video just reminded me of too many trenchcoat-covered gunfights.

Haha, I don’t dislike the video, I do like pulpy sci-fi violence, in moderation. Just not swords. Cuz they’re overexposed.

I always thought cyberpunk was about technology making the future dark and gritty causing problems, in contrast to utopian stuff. Close enough I guess.

I’ve seen Lain :P Although I guess it won’t hurt to watch it again. I haven’t heard much good about Existenz though :/

They’ve remade Syndicate, btw… I dunno if that’s up your alley.

Yeah, it’s about technology making things bad, too, I just tend to not think about it that way.

And if it’s just swords that’s the problem, then yeah, it’s not all that bad.

Haven’t heard of Syndicate.  Does look kinda interesting, maybe I can get it on GOG or something.
